특수교육을 전공하고 서울에서 조형 가구를 만들고 있습니다. 인종, 성별, 종교, 사회 계급 등 각종 경계에서 인간을 탐색하는 작업을 합니다. 근래에는 ‘범주화 된 전통’에 대한 관심을 갖고 전통의 경계를 허무는 가구들을 만들고 있습니다. 가구는 원시적이고 사람과 가까운 매체로, 무언가를 직접 만드는 행위는 단상 위의 작품을 사람에게 보내는 도구라고 믿고 있습니다.

예술을 따로 분류하여 서열화하는 도구로 삼거나, 기능적 숙련도를 무기로 새롭게 착취하고 억압하는 행위로 사용되는 것을 지양합니다. 그 모습 그대로의 보편의 아름다움, 추함의 아름다움을 찾고 있습니다. 제 작업에 관심을 가져주셔서 감사합니다.

I studied special education and currently create sculptural furniture in Seoul. My work explores the human condition across various boundaries—of race, gender, religion, and social class. In recent years, I’ve been interested in the idea of “categorized tradition,” and have been making furniture that breaks apart and reimagines the formal limits of what we call tradition.

To me, furniture is a primal and deeply human medium. I believe that making something by hand is a way of sending a work—not from a pedestal, but from one person to another.

I resist using art as a tool for classification or hierarchy, and I reject the way technical mastery is sometimes weaponized to reproduce new forms of exploitation or control. Instead, I search for the beauty of things as they are—the universal beauty in the ordinary and the quiet dignity found even in what we often label ugly.
