Against True Eco Lies

The ethics

I’ve stopped going to McDonald’s in Seoul—ever since the day they stopped offering straws for drinking Coke Zero. They told me: “We no longer provide straws, because we’re reducing plastic waste. But I needed the straw. I don’t have a swallowing disorder or any motor issue. I simply needed it—because it made me feel calm. I asked again. They said no. That was the last day a poor citizen visited the eco-friendly company called McDonald’s.

Conscious consumerism is not a lie.
But no product is truly ethical under capitalism.
Desire precedes environmental principle.

Becoming a conscious consumer comes at a cost.
Human desire has not evolved. I cut, I weave, I pour— and then, my face is a barrel of worms. You are seated only on your desires.
